A candid look into the types of customers, moving companies deal with.

Every day, in the world of moving, we meet people from all walks of life — different cultures, different temperaments, different expectations. Some customers are a dream. Others… well, let’s just say, they leave a lasting impression for all the wrong reasons.

Whether you’re moving locally or across continents, how you approach the process — and how you treat your movers — has a huge impact on how things unfold.

In this article, we shine a light on the many types of customers we deal with in the moving industry: the organized, the overwhelmed, the entitled, the vanishing acts — even the lovable ones. The aim isn’t to call anyone out (okay, maybe just a little), but to offer some insight, laughs, and self-awareness. Because the truth is: if you recognize yourself in one of these, you’re not alone — and that’s the first step toward a better moving experience for everyone.

It all starts with the first contact

Before we lift a single box or tape a single carton, we speak to customers by email, phone, or through a website inquiry. And trust us — you can tell a lot from that very first interaction. How a customer behaves in the early stages often sets the tone for the entire relationship.

Here’s what we typically see:

The Prepared Planner sends a clear, detailed list and asks thoughtful questions. They’re polite, realistic, and responsive. They make quoting easy — and usually get priority attention because we know they’re serious.

The Scrambler calls in a panic: “I need to move tomorrow. Can you help?!” Their inventory list is “just a few things,” which turns out to be a full three-bedroom house. They mean well, but the chaos begins before the truck even rolls out.

The Control Freak often sends an intense email with ten bullet points and five follow-ups within the hour. They want to know exactly how each item will be packed, in what order, by whom, and at what time. Helpful? Sometimes. Overwhelming? Usually.

The Ghost fills out the online form… then vanishes into thin air. No email replies, no returned calls. Then two weeks later: “Hey, can you still move me tomorrow?”

The Bargain Hunter jumps straight to price. “What’s your cheapest rate?” No name, no details, no hello. They send competitor quotes like they’re playing poker. They’ll even request for extra services saying things like “Will you throw in a free piano move? What they forget? You get what you pay for — and we’d rather win customers with quality, not a race to the bottom.

The Withholder gives as little info as possible. “It’s just some boxes,” they say, while dodging any questions about volume, access, or what “some” really means. We’re left guessing, and guessing is not a great way to run a move.

The VIP may open with “I’m very busy, so I expect this to be handled efficiently.” They name-drop, rush the conversation, and sometimes act like we’re lucky to have their business. Not the best way to start a working relationship.

The Cultural Ambassador is often kind and curious, but sometimes unsure about how things work. Language barriers or unfamiliar customs can create confusion — unless both sides make the effort to understand each other early on.

The Grateful Giver is friendly, human, and respectful. “Thanks for your time!” and “I know this is a big job — just want to make sure I’m doing it right.” That attitude alone makes everything easier — and earns them five stars in our eyes before we’ve even met. You remind us why we provide moving services.

The Bully shows signs early: rude emails, snappy tone, aggressive demands. We’ve learned to spot the red flags — and sometimes, for everyone’s sake, we just politely decline.

The Repeat Client checks in like an old friend. “Hi, it’s us again! Can we book you for our next move?” They’re confident, clear, and respectful — because they’ve been through it before and trust the process. They usually need less convincing and more confirming. Honestly, hearing from them makes our day.

The Royal usually says very little, assuming everything will “just be taken care of.” They don’t read the service details and assume movers will pack, disassemble, reassemble, organize, and maybe even hang their art — without saying a word.

So here’s the takeaway: The move starts the moment you reach out. Your tone, clarity, and attitude in that first conversation will shape how the process unfolds — and how much your movers are able (and willing) to help you.

Now that we’ve set the scene, let’s meet the cast…

They send their inventory on time, label their boxes, reply to emails faster than we can read them, and even have snacks packed for moving day. They don’t expect the impossible — and as a result, get the best possible outcome. We love you. The world loves you. Even the truck loves you!

They allow us to do our job efficiently. There are no surprises, no frantic last-minute packing marathons. Everyone’s on the same page.

Why it’s good for them

They end up less stressed, with fewer damages, and better control over costs and timing. Planning might not be glamorous, but it pays off in peace of mind.

Why it hurts the move

Everything takes longer. Things get lost. Fragile items get damaged because they weren’t packed properly. Costs go up because of the added time and effort.

They spend the whole day playing catch-up, stressing out, and wondering why things aren’t going to plan. Moving already has enough surprises — don’t let poor prep be one of them.

They exhaust themselves trying to orchestrate everything, when they could’ve been relaxing, sipping coffee, and letting the pros do their job. Pro tip: if you’ve hired movers, trust them to move.

Why? Sometimes they’re worried about price, sometimes privacy — and sometimes they just think it’s not necessary.

Why this complicates everything

Without clear information, we can’t send the right truck, the right number of movers, or the right quote. We either overbook (which wastes time and money) or underbook (which causes chaos on moving day). Surprise items = surprise problems.

Why it’s bad for them

Their move ends up more stressful and potentially more expensive. Delays, extra charges, or needing a second trip are all real risks. The irony? The more you tell us, the better we can help you.

Our advice

Why it’s a problem

They treat movers like personal assistants rather than trained professionals. They may ignore the agreed scope of work and expect extra services “just because.”

Why it’s bad for them

These customers often experience friction and frustration when things don’t go exactly their way — which they usually don’t, because moving is a team effort, not a royal decree. A little humility and collaboration would go a long way.

Why it can cause hiccups

Why it’s bad for them

They may feel let down if things go differently than expected — even though no one did anything “wrong.” Early communication is key. When both sides explain, listen, and adjust, the experience becomes positive and enriching for everyone.

Why we take this seriously

No one deserves that kind of treatment — not in this job, not in any job. Our teams are trained to remain calm, professional, and respectful.
They’ve moved with us before — maybe once, maybe three or four times over the years. They know the drill. They understand the process. They don’t micromanage, but they also don’t assume. They reach out early, provide updated information, and usually start the conversation with, “You guys helped us last time — can you help us again?”

Why we love them

Trust makes everything smoother. They’ve experienced a professional move firsthand and know what to expect. They’re the perfect mix of calm, respectful, and informed — and they get it.

Why it’s great for them

Because they already know the system, their moves are faster, cheaper, and far less stressful. They don’t waste time reinventing the wheel. Familiarity breeds not contempt, but confidence — on both sides.

Bonus

Repeat customers often get priority attention, better scheduling options, and a moving crew that’s genuinely happy to see them again. It’s like seeing an old friend — but with more bubble wrap.

Why it causes problems

Without clear input from the customer, decisions are made on the fly. Items may be forgotten, misplaced, or packed incorrectly. Not because we don’t care — but because no one gave directions.

Why it’s bad for them

They lose control of their own move. Later, they’re left frustrated that things weren’t packed “their way” — but they never said what “their way” was. Even royalty needs a plan. Movers aren’t mind readers, and successful moves require collaboration.

So… What Type of Customer Are You?

Did you recognize yourself? Maybe in more than one? That’s okay — the goal here isn’t guilt. It’s awareness.

A successful move starts with a conversation — and continues with communication, preparation, and mutual respect. Whether you’re a planner, a procrastinator, or somewhere in between, there’s always room to be better.

And here’s the good news: we’re doing our part to help you avoid those negative outcomes — the delays, the surprises, the stress. Every quote we send is detailed, transparent, and tailored to your specific move. We don’t cut corners, and we don’t leave you guessing.

All we ask? Take 10 minutes to read the quote. Just 10. It’s the most valuable time you’ll spend in the entire process. We’ll also follow up — not to push, but to walk you through it, answer your questions, and make sure everything is clear. That conversation might be the difference between a stressful move and a seamless one.

We’re here to make this easy, but we can’t do it alone. If you bring your honesty, your clarity, and your time — we’ll bring the experience, the muscle, and the plan.

Let’s Make Your Next Move a Good One

Planning a move? Think about what kind of customer you want to be.
Already moved? Be honest — how was your first contact?
Want a smooth, stress-free experience? Start by being the kind of customer you’d want to work with.

Share this article. Forward it. Post it.
Let’s help more people move smarter — and maybe laugh a little along the way.

If you are a collector of fine art, moving that special collection or individual item presents an extra set of concerns. Your valuable and irreplaceable antiques and artworks need to be moved safely and securely. Fine art requires careful preparation and handling in order to successfully make the journey to your new home. Are you looking to move your precious art objects or other high-value items? Read on because, in this article, we’ll give tips and advice regarding moving fine arts.

What is considered Fine Art?

Fine Arts are considered Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture. The difference between art and fine art is that fine art cannot be used for commercial or practical purposes. This is the reason they are extra valuable and irreplaceable. And that is why only a specialized moving company should be commissioned to perform the moving and transport of fine arts.

When you are moving to another country, the definition of Fine Arts for customs and taxes depends on the relocation destination. In the case of Fine Art, there is a distinction between an original work of art and a collector’s object. Antiques, on the other hand, are objects older than 100 years old, which are not original works of art or object of collection.

Why an expert company for moving Fine Arts?

Sculptures and paintings are often heavy, delicate, and in non-typical shapes. Being a unique artwork, even small damage during a move could potentially ruin its value. That is why each item needs to be addressed individually in its own unique way and with a customized moving process. Besides a customized approach to every piece of art, an expert mover will work according to international methods to help you protect the value of your collection.

Fine Arts Shipping 3 Tips

Document the condition of your artwork before moving

Purchase moving insurance to specifically cover your fine art pieces in case of damage or loss during the move

Hire a specialized moving company

KAE International Movers: How we move fine arts

In our company, we have been working with paintings, sculptures, antiques, and museum artifacts for many years. In fact, we have 20 years of experience in moving works of art. Many museums, artists, and private art collectors have entrusted us with their artworks and prestigious collections.

These collaborations have helped us to specialize our company in moving artworks and high-value items. We also continuously invest in our team with training and specialization courses, enabling them to work according to the highest international standard.

Moving Paintings

Paintings can be wrapped or crated. A wooden crate is the safest method of transportation. Measurements are carefully taken, and special materials are taken into

consideration and are assessed uniquely for each item. The crate is then built around

the painting and is assembled on-site. The crate protects against damage, humidity, and any other potentially damaging situations. Adjustable transportation frames are also used for paintings. Paintings may need to be transported in a climate-controlled environment to protect the pigments.

Moving Sculptures

Moving a large, outdoor sculpture is very different from moving a small or large painting, yet each may be worth thousands of dollars. Generally, we strongly recommend that crating is the only right option for sculptures because they best protect them against damage.

Museum-quality crates are custom-built and are padded with special protective material, cushioning, or built-in frameworks.

At Kae International Movers, the happiness and safety of our customers is our highest priority. If you want to ensure a safe removal, there are plenty of precautions to take and things to check. Here are 5 tips to properly vet your removal company in order to move safely.

https://youtu.be/Q89SV3VGz1A

1. Choose a reliable moving company

Reliability should be your first step when looking for a safe choice in moving. Do the research and pick your moving company carefully. To make sure that the moving company is trustworthy, get referrals and start by asking friends, family members and co workers if they can make a recommendation. Research a moving company directory such as this one for Prague and the Czech Republic, for a list of reputable movers. Also look for website testimonials or verified customer review platforms such as Google Reviews and social media.

Accreditations and awards

A great way to check the quality of the moving company you’re considering is checking to see if they are up to date on their certifications. Also check the moving company’s website for professional accreditations and industry memberships such as Euromovers or the IAM, the global association of movers and forwarders committed to providing customers with the highest level of service available.

2. Expect high level Customer Care

At a reliable moving company you may expect the highest level of customer care. A moving company is responsible and professional when they offer a trusted customer care department and have someone in charge of answering all your questions. Ask for an in-person estimate, since no company can really give you a thorough estimate without seeing your belongings. During the estimate, note how professional the movers are. Adaptability and flexibility must be key when addressing your concerns, and you should expect a fast and professional response to all your queries.

3. A safe choice in moving with Kae International Movers in Prague: Insure your personal effects

It is the moving company’s responsibility to provide the greatest care of every single item that is packed in order to protect all your valuable goods that are being moved. But any moving service can be exposed to risks. Unexpected events cannot be predicted, therefore it is always recommended insuring all your goods while in transit or in storage in the Czech Republic.

Valuing your goods and completing your inventory is an important step ensuring your goods are well covered. In case of an international move, insure your personal goods or office effects for their full replacement value in the country to which you are moving. It is likely that the cost of repairs as well as replacement will be higher abroad. If you do not insure them for the full replacement value, you will only be able to recover part of your loss from the insurers.

Have as much written information about your high value items as possible. The underwriters of your moving company may require proof of ownership and/or value of such items. Make sure you photograph these items, print them in color, date and sign the prints and add them to your inventory. For items of high value, you can never take too many precautions.

Also pay attention to storage coverage. Some moving companies insure their clients’ goods from collection to delivery whilst others only insure goods while in storage.

4. Check Security Measures

Protecting clients information

Whether you are moving your family or relocating your company, keeping sensitive information safe during relocation can be challenging. Office moves in particular can get chaotic, which increases the likelihood of slipping away your confidential information to the wrong hands. Professional moving services will keep your family, client and business information protected when moving.

It is a must to make a list of inventory, but it is essential for sensitive documents too. By making a record, you will get to know whether you have any client and business information that needs to be protected. At the same time, discard unnecessary documents. We all accumulate documents that are no longer necessary, so moving is the right time to dispose them permanently. It will make your move or relocation secure, efficient, and less messy. Use a shredder for hard copies with sensitive data and information. When deleting electronic files, it is vital to remove them from your server or computer.

Do not pack confidential documents with other possessions. Always keep sensitive information locked up in drawers or cabinets when shifting your home or office from one place to another.

Take advantage of secure storage services to ensure the safety of your official documents and information throughout the process.

Secure Storage Warehouse

Not all moving companies offering storage facilities are created equally. Be sure to ask about their levels of security, access, and climate controlled conditions. Professional movers have the ability to store your household belongings in a climate controlled and secure storage warehouse. You also want secure storage location without unauthorized entry. These secure storage facilities have multiple levels of security. This can include video surveillance, locked gates, and on-site security personnel.

5. Stay COVID-19 Safe

Make sure your moving company is COVID-19 secure (click here). Ask what measures they are taking to ensure a safe move experience during the COVID-19 outbreak because some measures undertaken by the Czech Republic differed in key aspects from other countries. Reputable movers must understand safety and health, and it’s imperative the moving company you choose demonstrates considerable vigilance at this time.

Get a virtual quote, and be clear on the process of rescheduling your move should corona crisis measures change. Choose a moving company that is flexible during these uncertain times. When you receive your moving quote, you may want to inquire about refund and/or deposit policies in the event you do need to cancel your move.

When you are ready to move, clean and disinfect and make sure that you increase ventilation by opening windows and doors to allow in fresh air. Once the movers have arrived for loading and unloading, practice the general COVID-19 protective safety measures advice by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic*. These recommendations include but are not limited to the following: wearing masks and/or creating reminders to avoid touching the face, regular handwashing and regularly disinfecting surfaces, social distancing and protection of vulnerable family members. After you move, you should thoroughly disinfect your new home before you unpack and settle in.

Vetting your movers safety is the most important step to take when it comes to making your moving decision. At KAE International Movers we have gone the extra mile to make sure you feel that we are a company you can trust.
Coronavirus (COVID-19): Moving House in the Czech Republic

In December 2020, the Czech Republic government announced a return to the 4th tier of the pandemic corona response system. Consequently, the state of emergency will be again in effect until 22 January 2021.* Due to the spread of the coronavirus epidemic, the Czech government has restricted the free movement of people to the essential minimum again, just as it did last year. However, it also confirmed that the housing market will remain open and moves are permitted within the current lockdown in Czech. People can move home in all protection levels and move to and from areas with different levels as long as public health and government safety guidelines are followed.
